Stomach stretching exercise

Well right now I’m losing this bout with my little case of insomnia, so I figured I could start on my first blog instead of staring at my bedroom ceiling for the next 4 hours.  The only blog I usually read is the angry pharmacist’s (www.theangrypharmacist.com in case you wanna check it out), so I instinctively want to cuss and gripe about idiots for a few paragraphs, but for the sake of everyone reading I’ll try to keep it clean.

Alright, time for a little story.  Tonight after the meeting, Scholfield decided to do some last minute training before the pizza-eating contest tomorrow by drinking as much fluid as he could in 20 minutes.  He started off by bringing out some ice cold pink lemonade.  He downed 64 oz. in less than 2 minutes (that’s 4 pounds of lemonade!) Little did we know, he was just getting started.  He followed that up by drinking four 17 oz. bottles of water over the next 14 minutes.  By the time he finished his last bottle of water, his stomach was so full it looked like he just swallowed a watermelon. For those of you doing the math at home, that’s 132 oz. of fluid (that’s over a gallon… 8+ pounds of fluid) in about 16 minutes.

Well he kept those 132 ounces in his stomach for about 7 seconds… Then it started coming back up, and it came up a lot quicker than it went down.  Scholfield looked like ole faithful for the next few minutes as the gallon of water/lemonade/some chicken he ate for dinner made its way from his stomach out to the pavement.

After that amazing display of intestinal (well in this case it was more stomachal) fortitude and incredible stomach capacity, I know one thing going into tomorrow regardless of who’s competing in the pizza-eating contest: I’ve got my money on Scholfield.

Lambda Chi Alpha Athletics

In shocking late breaking news, the Athletics Director for Lambda Chi Alpha Pi Lambda Zeta announces: “I 100% guarantee an Intramural Football championship this season.” After what many would consider a subpar season for the championship holding Gold Team, Omicron pleads: “Well, even though we didn’t give up any points, and a handful of first downs, we really should have embarrassed more people out there.” After a shameful undefeated season, team captains look to the future for improvement. Seriously, who does a guy have to pay to get just one 8 touchdown game?

True Brotherhood…

I’ve had my fair share of arguments with my Brothers. Heck, I’d even admit that for a spell, I hated one or two (that’s not the case anymore — everything always gets resolved). I’ve shouted, contradicted, and nearly gotten combative with my Brothers. But, you know what? It’s 5am as I right this. I can’t sleep. If I called any one of them, I have no doubt in my mind that they would answer (so long as their phone isn’t on silent). I have no doubt that any single one of them would jump in their car, drive to my house, and watch Paid Programming with me if I asked it of them.

You can’t buy Brotherhood. You can’t teach Brotherhood.

It’s something instilled in you over time. It’s cultured through experiences. It’s grown through trials and tribulations. It grows better through time, much like wine. It can’t be explained…it can only be experienced.

I hope that every young man can experience true Brotherhood in their life.

Firsts

Well, here goes nothing: my first Blog entry and presence onto the online stage…

Like most chapters, it is a time full of anticipation: the Rush of a new Recruitment class; our Epsilon class will be dropping their bids on Monday.  Since this is my first time on this side, along with the other 14 Brothers of the Delta class(36-50), it is an entirely new experience.  I now look back on the past year on my AM period, initiation, and continuing membership Brothership in this ever-growing Zeta.  It is exciting to me to think of those who will be entering the bond and all they will learn and experience.

And I hope that, if I do become a Big Brother, I do half as well for my Little as mine did for me.

My inspiration…

Everyone’s heard my story a thousand times — most even finish the story for me, “It’s hard to believe this all started with me spending a weekend at Southwest Missouri State (now renamed Missouri State University).” I got the grand idea for expanding Lambda Chi Alpha to St. Louis College of Pharmacy from spending a weekend with a friend from high school. I returned home and found the expansion website, filled out the information form, and with the click of a mouse, started a yearlong journey which culminated in the chartering of Colony #287 as Pi-Lambda Zeta on November 4, 2005. It was a long and winding road filled with peaks, valleys, and sharp turns, but time and time again, it has proven one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I’ve seen 50 men initiated into the Bond of Lambda Chi Alpha (so far) and had values instilled into me that I would have never known without many deeds done by those that came before me.

I’ve benefitted by the hard work of others that proceeded me, and I have therefore dedicated myself to work hard to insure those that follow after me have the necessities needed to make their Great Passage more than beneficial. I’ve had my courage tested, and every time, I fought for what I knew was right. I will continue to hold dear the values of Lambda Chi Alpha long after my college years are through.

I leave this first blog post on the Pi-Lambda Zeta Website with this quote, which rings more true every time I read it:

“Even if later we are preoccupied with important things, even if we fall into misfortunes, still let us remember how good it was here once, when we were all together, united by a good and kind feeling, which made us, perhaps, better than we were.” ~ Fyodor Dostoyevsky

Move Complete!

Everything has been ported over from the old flash-based website! We lost nothing in the transfer. I’m very pleased with the look (and fast load times) of the new LXA PLZ blog-based website.

Next things on the docket:
1. Get all of our pictures uploaded to Flickr. The login/pass has been shared with all Brothers, so the pictures should get on there by the end of the year. As they are, random photos will be displayed on the right frame with each page load. Visitors can also click the pictures and view the entire album. Done - I’ve uploaded my photos - just need everyone else to follow suit.
2. Create a “Brother Blog” page where inspired Brothers can make posts, share stories, and upload other photos to share with visitors, parents, Brothers from other Zetas, and alumni everywhere. I will build the page and get the ball rolling, getting other Brothers to follow suit may be a little harder to do… Done - will be navigatable by the “categories” heading on the right side bar either by name of Brother or “Brother Blog” category. We just have to ensure every post is tagged correctly.
3. Hunt down every other Lambda Chi Alpha Zeta and Alumni Chapter website in the world and add their website URL to the “Links” dropdown in the right frame. This feat will likely take until the end of the year - especially since the website that already had the work down has disappeared. This is done. Wikipedia made this very easy!
4. Take any and all suggestions and implement those ideas.

Welcome

Hello! Welcome to v2.0 of STLCOPLXA.COM! We’ve converted to the more easily configurable wordpress software, though actual blogging will be limited to specific areas and NOT the main page.

Anyway, over the next month or so, the old site will be ported over to the new website. It’s unlikely that everything will survive the trip, but we’ll see what we can do! It’s gonna be a learning experience for everyone, but this website could really benefit the chapter in the future…
